Food, food, food

For me it is not enough to have just one regular city guide book. Kat & Dan, I'm not criticizing the one you gave us, ok? It's really useful, but I am a demanding person, so I bought many books from NYC. One was recommended by a friend and has 50 walks around the city. The second one I bought is from [Time Out, 1000 Things to do in NYC], and it got me because I opened one page at a bookstore and read "the best fries from NYC", which by the way I haven't tried yet. And the last one is the [eat.shop nyc], more about the eat, less shop... ok, ok, I'll be honest, I LOVED even the title of this book! Do I use them? Of course I do! That's how I'm writing this post!

Unfortunately I don't make any money talking about these books nor about the things they publish, but I still think it's worth giving my readers some kind of tips. So today I added 3 nice - food - places to my wishing-list.

The first one is [Grandaisy Bakery] in SoHo. I have no idea how it will be, but I'm going there some day to buy some bread and desert. I wish this day was tonight, but they close at 7pm and without much planning in advance that will be an almost impossible time to meet Felipe there.

I also added to my list things there are in my neighborhood, as that's is the main thing of living in nyc, you can always walk around almost fainting with starvation and you will for sure find a decent and nice place.

First thing that came into my list of "places to go in Hell's Kitchen" (Hells Kitchen is the neighborhood we live in, I'll write another post about it) is called [Kyotofu]. Their website is almost edible! I imagine all the Japanese desserts they sell there!

The second place added to my list is called Poseidon Greek Bakery (629 9th Ave, no website). I've only had a good Greek years ago and my sister in law inspired me to try this cuisine after her trip to Greece.

Ok, ok, why am I only talking about places I want to go rather than talking about those I've already been to? I don't know, probably because I had to write down all these things I want to do so I won't forget them. And IF I do forget it, I'll have my readers to remind me!

Proud of a tiny Brazil

Today I found two different size definitions of Brazil.

The first one: "The fifth largest country by geographical area, the fifth most populous country, and the fourth most populous democracy in the world."
[Wikipedia]

The second one:
[Adapt or Die from The Economist]

Not surprisingly but still sad, US is enormous by any definition given.

Feed your pet with style

I really enjoy spending some hours of my free time looking for new design ideas, specially when related to the improvement of a house with imagination and on budget. I previously posted a [really funny table] that looked like it was a splash of paint on the "invisible table" (I thought about the Invisible Man movies when first saw that table, that's an easy way to find them!).

There is a famous design website called [Apartment Therapy] where people post new ideas, pictures of normal (or not SO normal) people houses, questions on how to improve a corner or a room, where to find a sofa they saw somewhere else. September is a month dedicated to pets and there were many many ideas, nice looking beds, cushions, toys and pools about their behavior.

And today I read about a cat owner designer that created some really interesting ideas for them. I'm not such a big fan of cats, although I always remember one thing my friend Mid said: "cats are not visitors' pets like dogs, they have their owner (or slave, call it what you want) and they won't be so nice to strangers". So it's hard to evaluate my relationship with cats as I never had one and they always treated me like I would steal their owners.

Isn't it cute? The designer is Vanessa Von Hessert and there are more ideas and pictures, click here to [check it].

Enfim,
cat lover or not, [clique aqui] para ver mais fotos da designer Vanessa Von Hessert.

Brrrrr. . .

I was amazed by the weather change a few days ago. For the first time I left home and that warm and humid breath that comes from the city didn't hit me. It was a strange, weird and cold breeze. It seemed I had left the super power AC from inside my building and entered in a mild one, but still on.

Yes, summer is gone. That happened a few days ago and it's getting worse and worse. I tried to go out today wearing my havaianas, but it was almost impossible, not only because it was raining, but the main reason is because it is getting cold. I was thinking that it makes sense, as in a few days leafs will turn yellow, brown and red all over the city, women will stop wearing their havaianas during lunch break and big coats, hats, gloves, scarfs and willies (oh, I HAVE to buy those) will come out of wardrobes and stores.

I know it is perfectly reasonable that it started already, but it was just too shocking to be able to feel it. At the same time really exciting, I love winter season! Can't wait to walk around Central Park covered with snow!

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Balance of 9/11th

Ok, ok, I'm super tired but I know I owe my readers something here. Today was what I expected, some sad people carrying flowers, people around the city with signs and posters about those they lost, some things going on close to the Ground Zero, but what really amazed me was the amount of police officers around the city. It seems it wasn't like that on the previous years, and the reason was that the two presidential candidates were here. Well, it can't be ONLY that, because I don't think they went for a walk around the Stock Exchange and it was really crazy there, streets were closed to cars and even some streets to people.

One thing was really surprising: how empty everything was. It was worse than a Sunday in the middle of summer holidays (if that expression does not make sense to foreigners, it does to Brazilians, at least for people from São Paulo, when the city gets really empty). Stores were closed, people weren't working, buildings didn't have people coming and going.

I think there is not much to say. Just 2 pictures (one below) to see .

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

O post é breve pois o dia foi longo e cansativo (ai, pézinhos). E qual o saldo?
